The Bread Bakers Association in the Ashanti Region has announced that citizens of the region will now be paying more for bread by 20%.
This, they said, is a result of the increase in the raw materials used in baking the bread. According to the secretary of the association, the price of flour is now at GHS 220, up from GHS 160. The prices of sugar and margarine also followed suit with sugar moving from GHS 150 to GHS 210, while margarine moved from GHS 98 to GHS 142.
Some bread bakers have also complained about importing the flour and wheat used in baking their bread, thereby incurring a lot of costs, according to UTV News.
