Wealth-Time Monday- Setting Goals

Welcome once again to Wealth-Time on Philsmedia.

 

One of the most important things that one can do to progress in life is to set goals. Without goals, you will basically be walking without any heading, not knowing where you are going.

We have two kinds of goals that a person needs to set as they strive to attain their dreams.

We have long-term goals and short-term goals.

  • Long-term goals– these are the ultimate goals that you want to attain in life. Becoming successful, buying a house, etc. are all long-term goals.
  • Short-term goals– these are the small goals that you set for yourself to help you attain your long-term goals. They can be daily, weekly or monthly goals. Short-term goals move you closer to your long-term goals.

In order to reach your long-term goals, you need to set short-term goals that will move you towards the long-term goals. For example, if you want to lose weight, you will have to set short-term goals of following a diet and working out weekly. You tell yourself that you will follow a certain diet regime and work out four times a week. Reaching the four times workout each week is hitting the short-term goals that will gradually move you to your long-term goal of losing weight.

Short-term goals are important as they keep you focused on the long-term goal. One way to hit your goals is to write them down on paper. Don’t just keep it in your head. Write them down and keep them on a table in your room so that you can see them every day to remind you of what your goals are for that week.

  • Setting goals

You set your short-term goals according to your long-term goal. This means that you must have a long-term goal that you want to hit. It could be setting up a company, buying a new car, or building muscles. Knowing your long-term goal will help you to set your short-term goals. One important thing is that your ultimate long-term goal should be about your future.

After writing your goals down, you need to have the discipline to follow them. If you set time to workout at 8 am and there is a program that you are watching, leave it and workout as soon as it hits 8 am if the program is not something very important. There is no need to rush with discipline. As time goes on, you will be able to follow your time goals easily.

Short-term goals may not look so significant. But we are sure you have heard of the saying that “tiny drops of water make the mighty ocean”
